Billy Lane of Choppers Inc will be at the Great American Motorcycle Show on Saturday, January 24 only from 10am-7pm in the LawBike.com booth!

Bio:

Born and raised in Miami, custom bike-builder Billy Lane holds an Associate of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from Florida State University and a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from Florida International University.

Being something of a mechanical genius himself, Billy's father got him interested in cars and hot rods early on; so Billy had quite a bit of mechanical knowledge before starting engineering school. Then in 1989, he bought his first bike while in college. The bike was basically in pieces, but with the help of some old-timers, Billy learned how to put it together -- and fast.

After graduating, Billy took a job with his brother Warren, working on custom and restoration bikes. ...Then Billy went out on his own. In the early days, he began by creating custom parts as gifts for his friends. Eventually the demand for his "six-gun" parts grew beyond his peers, leading to the formation of Choppers Inc. in Melbourne, Florida.

Billy gives credit for his success to good timing, and getting into the chopper scene ahead of the curve --before the motorcycle industry began recognizing custom choppers as relevant. Billy's energy, knowledge, and creativity have also been credited with helping to elevate the chopper style into the huge industry it is today.

Even today, Billy is developing ideas for new products and styles, while holding seven (7) U.S. patents on the Choppers Inc. parts line-up: Six Gun Handlebar Riser Clamps (D452,467), Six Gun Shift Knob (D441,700), Six Gun Oil Cap (D440,930) and Six Gun Foot Peg (D455,374), Six Gun Handlebar Grip (D487,011), Tumbling Dice Light (D457,980) and Loaded Dice Shift Knob (D473,171).

Over the years, Billy's bikes and parts have been featured on numerous magazine covers, including The Horse, Street Chopper, Hot Bike, Easyriders and Kopteri (Finland). Early recognition and awards were given in 2002, including the Easyriders Best Bike Builder of the Year and Easyriders Invitational Class First Place Best-in-Show for the "Psycho Billy Cadillac" bike, featuring his famous hubless wheel.

Billy has also written two books (published by MBI Publishing): Chop Fiction -- It's Not a Motorcycle Baby, It's a Chopper (2004), and his second book, How To Build Old School Choppers and Bobbers (2005). Billy Lane's Blood Sweat and Gears Tour DVD was released April 2006.

Billy has been featured on several television shows, including a segment on Speed Channel's Corbin's Ride On!, (September 2003), as well as Discovery Channel's Biker Build-Off series (2002-2005), and BIG! (June 2004). Billy's relationship with The Discovery Channel began with the first episode of Monster Garage. Later, their TV special, The Billy Lane Project, (October 2005) focused on Billy's Blood Sweat & Gears Tour.

More recently, Billy was commissioned to build a Tribute bike for the U.S. Air Force, which was unveiled in 2012 at Rolling Thunder's 25th Anniversary First Amendment Run, an event taking place annually on Memorial Weekend in Washington DC. This particular bike build was both a challenge and an honor, with Billy in a race against time to complete the project within a few short months, while essentially building the bike completely from scratch and without assistance.

Four other custom bikes also were unveiled at the Rolling Thunder rally, each designed for the purpose of promoting respect and recognition of our military service men and women. The 5 Tribute bikes --representing the United States Air Force, Army, Coast Guard, Marines, and Navy-- tour periodically with the traveling Vietnam War Memorial "Wall that Heals", visiting various military installations, major bike rallies and events around the country.
