Seminar
Unicoi Outfitter's guide and Assistant Manager Jake Darling will discuss "How To Catch Big Trout on Georgia's Public Streams." Jake will focus on the
nature of big trout and how to connect with them. Where you find them and how you present your fly in a manner that will give you the best odds of
getting a strike.
Several of Georgia's public streams harbor big trout. Dukes Creek at Smithgall Woods is the crown jewel of our public streams but we also have the Chattahoochee and Toccoa River tailwaters and the Chattooga River. Developing an intimate knowledge of these streams and understanding how to fish them takes dedication and typically requires an extended learning curve. That is, unless you can tap into the skills of those who have already been through it.
Jake's success with big fish has become well known around north Georgia and he will share his ideas and techniques that will help you become a better angler and begin to develop the strategies for hunting trophy size trout on public waters.
Bio
Born in Northeast Georgia with "Trout Bum" in the blood of his family, the odds were high that Jake's number one priority in his life would be chasing
trout. Jake began following his father up and down the trout streams of North Georgia at age five, and quickly developed a passion for the sport of fly
fishing. When he was growing up, if Jake wasn't in school, odds were you would find him on the water. He and his father spent every spare moment of
their time fishing together. When Jake was fourteen, his father passed away. It was precisely at this point when he decided he would make fly fishing
his career. With the help and guidance of Jimmy Harris and Jake's second family at Unicoi Outfitters, he was able to make his dream a reality. Jake
has been chasing different species of fish with a fly for nearly 3/4ths of his life now, and considers the water his playground.
Not only is Jake a guide at Unicoi Outfitters, he is also the Assistant Manager of the Helen shop and fishes for Team Stonefly, a competitive fly fishing team in North Carolina. Fly fishing has always been his sanity, his passion, and his life. Jake enjoys just being on the water, whether it's guiding his clients, fishing in a tournament, or just fishing with friends. He loves to gain and share his knowledge of fly fishing, but it's the camaraderie of fly fishing that he values most.
