Blackhawk Fly Fishing Guide John Rice will be discussing the various methods to catch trophy trout. The presentation covers streamer fishing, nymphing, big dry flies with dropper, and swinging wet flies.
Bio
Ever since John was old enough to ride his bicycle to the local pond after school, he has pursued his love of fishing. "My first fly rod was a white
fiberglass 'Southbend' with an auto-wind reel," John reports.
Since those days, he has run inshore charters in Florida for several years, and then helped anglers catch big fish off shore for over a decade; all the while, keeping up with his love for fly fishing by visiting family in northern California and fishing several streams and rivers in that region.
Now he instructs and helps people catch big trophy rainbows and browns as a guide at Blackhawk Fly Fishing on the Soque River above Clarkesville, Georgia.
"Guiding is teaching," John says, "and on trophy catch and release waters, like Blackhawk, what you learn is what you keep from your day." With all the aspects of the mechanics of fly fishing, the casting techniques, presentations, the approach, fly selections, and the entomology and fly tying to match your studies, John says that "It is truly a lifetime pursuit. Never stop learning!"
John has been featured as the guide in the Georgia Traveler show and the O'neil Outside television series with O'neil Williams. John has guided anglers to three IGFA records for rainbow and brown trout at Blackhawk Fly Fishing and will remain forever passionate about his guiding and instructing.
